Information about aerodynamics and speech.

Aerodynamics is the study of air movement and this motion of air is an essential component to speech and singing. We use our diaphram and lungs to push (or release) breath out through our mouths, past our larynx and the resulting signal is what we call speech. We can think of speech as breathing, changed (a quote from a paper I can’t track down at the moment).

Air flows from a region of higher pressure to one of lower pressure. By manipulating the muscles around the lungs the volume of the lungs can be changed and with it the pressure of the air.
